Zancudo Lodge, located in southern Costa Rica, offers a variety of fishing opportunities for both inshore species like Roosterfish and Jack Crevalle and offshore for Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna and Dorado.

The lodge offers a perfect tropical setting and luxurious accommodation. It is a great base for both angler and non-angler alike.

Situated in an unexploited and remote jungle village, Zancudo Lodge in southern Costa Rica is bordered by the Rio Coto on the east and the Pacific Ocean and Zancudo Beach to the west. It is four hundred and ten kilometres south of San Jose and about sixty kilometres from the border with Panama. This is a fishing lodge but there are plenty of activities for the non-fisher.

The accommodation and the lodge are all set within acres of tropical gardens but close to the beachfront. There are sixteeen rooms and suites with twin, King- or Queen-sized beds, en-suite facilities, private bathrooms and showers. All rooms and suites have full amenities which include TVs and air-conditioning and they are surrounded by beautiful forest and wildlife offering spectacular views.

There is a full housekeeping and laundry service.

There is plenty of room for all your gear and equipment and it is all clean and comfortable.

Dining and cuisine at the lodge is a mix of fresh local ingredients cooked in traditional and international styles. Fresh tropical fruits are in abundance and readily available as is fish and seafood, all of which form the basis of most meals. The lodge operates on a 'from-the-Sea-to-the-Table' and 'from-the-farm-to-the-Table' policy.

There is a saltwater filtered pool and a Marina along with many beachfront lounge areas where you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The lodge also has a gift shop, an open air gourmet restaurant and a fully stocked bar.

For non-fishing guests, there are plenty of activities to enjoy from paddle-boarding to surfing and kayaking, hiking in the nearby Corcovado National Park, visitng botancial gardens, rainforest tours and wildlife sanctuaries, horseback riding and zip-line canopy tours. There are also miles of black sandy beaches to explore—or simply relax by the pool and soak up the sun.

The resort also boats an organic fruit-garden and organic herb greenhouse.

Offshore bluewater fishing gives access to the various species of Marlin, plus a range of sportfish such as Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado and more which makes this lodge of the finest places in the world to sportfish.

Inshore, there is Roosterfish, Cubera, Snapper, Bluefin Trevally, Jacks, Sierra Mackerel, Tripletail and other species.

Both offshore and inshore, the crews have the option of using conventional equipment or fly rods. They can put you right on the fish and are experienced in all techniques whether you are a beginner with a fly rod or an experienced professional.

Fly fishing has developed especially for the Marlin and Sailfish and the crews are experienced in the techniques required. You can take your own equipment or use the gear from the resort. For Marlin 13-14# rods and suitable reels to match are the order of the day.

For the inshore species such as the Trevally, Snook, Barracuda and Jacks etc, lighter gear can be used in line with 9-12# rods and matching reels. The resort also has a fully stocked tackle shop with all the gear and equipment that you might need.

A typical day starts just after an early breakfast when the boats leave the Marina, aiming return late afternoon. If out all day, the boat will carry packed lunches and refreshments. The boats usually try to allow about eight hours out on the water but this can vary depending on weather and conditions.

The lodge fishes all year round and many species are available to catch all year, however, some species are subject to seasonal variations so it is worth checking the annual timetable depending on what you would like to target.

Passport with minimum six months validity.

There are various international flight options direct to San Jose airport. Usually, you have to stay overnight in San Jose and the next day, you take an internal flight to Sansa Airport. The transfer to the Zancudo Lodge from Sansa Airport is by road.

There is a Costa Rica departure tax of $29.
