The Minnivallalaekur River offers the opportunity for small parties to fish one of Europe’s great brown trout rivers. This gin-clear spring-fed stream produces Brown Trout of gigantic proportions and is also a delight to fish with a very comfortable self-catering lodge right on the banks of the river.

  • Season: June to end of September
  • Huge wild Brown Trout
  • Excellent dry-fly fishing
  • Stunning spring creek and scenery
  • Close to Mount Hekla and glaciers for sight-seeing
  • Ideal for small private parties
  • Average temperatures: 9-14℃ in warmer summer months. Colder months: single figures down to -3℃

The lodge sits on a bend in the river, right next to one of the best pools, with a magnificent view to Mt Hekla in the distance.

There are four twin-bedrooms, two bathrooms both with showers, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining-room, a sitting-room, and a veranda with thermal spa.

This is a self-catering lodge, however, catering can be arranged at additional costs.

WIFI is available in the lodge but you will need to bring your own laptop or tablet.

The Minnivallalaekur River is fast becoming a world-famous river for producing large wild Trout between ten and sixteen pounds, each season. Fish average in excess of three pounds and there is no prettier place to fly-fish in Iceland.

This seven-kilometre of spring-fed beauty might be the best wild brown brout river in Europe. Certainly, very few rivers would hold the number of double-figure fish that the 'Minni' is famous for producing each season. The fishing is truly stealth-fishing for large Wild Brown Trout in gin-clear water. This 'fly only' 'catch and release' fishery is available to four rods to ensure that it is sustained into the future. A guide can be arranged if required and rod-sharing is allowed. Much of the fishing is with dry flies but small nymphs are used as well.

5-6 weight rods and gear are ideal for these large Trout. We would advise all anglers to take all the equipment that they need, waders, boots, rods, reels, lines etc.
