Argentina is world famous as a fly fishing destination for numerous varieties of Trout. The sea-run brown trout fishery of Tierra Del Fuego has possibly the biggest Sea-Run Brown Trout found anywhere in the world. There are also prolific brown, rainbow and brook trout fisheries scattered along the Andean spine of the country, where huge numbers of rivers, streams, lakes and creeks provide an ideal habitat for these introduced species.

Northern Patagonia has a some of the finest and most diverse trout fishing on the planet. One of the finest lodges is located on the River Traful within the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The private Estancia Arroyo Verde has provided some of the finest fly fishing Argentina has to offer for over twenty-five years. A journey to Estancia Arroyo Verde will be a trip to remember.

Overlooking the valley, the traditional wood and stone built houses are set in beautifully landscaped gardens with mature trees, shrubs and colourful borders. There are several outside seating areas to enjoy a drink before lunch or to watch the sunset.

In the main house, the sun-lounge, bar, living-room and dining-room with their fireplaces were designed to create a cozy and relaxed atmosphere for guests. Each of the four individually decorated twin/double bedrooms has en-suite facilities and heating. In an adjacent house, there are two more bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

Arroyo Verde is known for its traditional and international home-made dishes. Some Argentinean dishes such as 'empanadas, carbonada, milanesas, puchero, roast beef, panqueques con dulce de leche' are favourites with our visitors. For dinner, fish, pasta or chicken and a great variety of homemade soups are served.

Outside dining is very popular especially for lunch. The traditional asado (barbecue) consists of a whole lamb and side of beef accompanied by local sausages, home-made fried bread, baked provolone cheese, baked potatoes and sweet potatoes as well as a large variety of salads.

The Estancia provides a range of activities outside of its fishing programme. These include extensive horse-riding with experienced gauchos, bird-watching for the famous Andean Condor and hiking.

WIFI connection is available in the lodge but bring your own laptop or tablet.

The Traful is an exclusively catch-and-release fly fishing river. At the beginning of the season, the river runs high and fast with the level dropping in December but usually with fast water till the beginning or middle of January (depending on weather conditions, especially the winter snows), it then runs slowly till the first Autumn rains.

A typical mountain river with crystal clear water varying in width from sixty to ninety feet (twenty to thirty metres) with rapids and pools throughout its ten miles course, it is home to Rainbow and Brown Trout and Land-Locked Salmon. Although the average size of the fish is around twenty to thirty-three inches for Trout and twenty-two to twenty-four inches for Salmon, it is not uncommon to catch twenty-eight-inch Salmons, thirty-inch Rainbows and twenty-nine-inch Browns, all which have been caught recently, something to think about when you choose the tippet for your leader.
