Fly fishing on the River Test at Bossington Estate was the haunt of fishing nobility such as Halford and Skues and the beats are well known amongst the fly fishing fraternity. The Victorian fishing hut on Home Beat is a must for a sense of piscatorial history and a delightful setting for corporate entertaining.

The estate has been in the same family since 1937 with the magnificent William IV house providing a stunning backdrop to the river on the House Beat.

A younger generation have taken over the running of the estate with a fresh approach, maintaining tradition but also satisfying the needs of the ever-growing anglers all keen to fish on such hallowed water. The beats are managed by one of the youngest river keepers in the Test Valley and his dedication to the management and welfare of his Trout is exemplary.

On the River Test, the season opens on 20th April and closes on 18th October.

The Wallop Brook opens on the 3rd April until June dependent on conditions.

The beat opens for fishing from 9:30am and you may stay until dusk.

There are stocked Brown Trout from two pounds in weight upwards, Wild Trout and the occasional Grayling.

The six beats all have their own individuality with deep pools, riffled water and gravel beds. Please contact us for details on each beat in relation to your own particular needs and abilities. There are sweeping lawns, mown banks and well managed edges, all providing cover and insect holding areas.

The Wallop Brook is wild trout fishing at its finest with no stocking and all 'Catch and Release'. The majority of this beat is wading and this is for wild trout fisherman with good stalking skills, understanding of entomology and use of light tackle.

For beginners, there is also the use of Horsebridge Lake which is aquifer-fed and well stocked with Rainbows, and makes the perfect place to start your fishing hobby.

There is also a superb fishing hut with picnic tables under cover and a small stove. This is ideally placed for six rods who wish to make a day of it and enjoy a fun lunch together.

All the fishing huts have tea/coffee making facilities plus basic tables and chairs.
