Fly fishing for Sea-Run Brown Trout in Tierra Del Fuego is a quest that each fly-fisherman dreams of undertaking one day.

Fly Odyssey offers early season and prime season Sea-Run Trout fishing on the Rio Grande.

One of our favourite lodges on the Rio Grande is Aurelia Lodge which lies between the Rio Grande and the Menendez River.

Aurelia Lodge can comfortably accommodate twelve guests in five twin rooms. One of which is a very large suite and is ideal for families of up to four people. The lodge caters to eight anglers per week.

The Estancia House was totally renovated in 2005 to the Fishing Lodge and it allows guests to enjoy warm, comfortable and spacious rooms, large and fully appointed private bathrooms, a warm and welcoming reception area and a dining room that has a wonderful view. There is also an indoor barbecue (quincho) a casual lounge with a pool table and a fly tying place. All of which makes for a great place to enjoy the traditional Patagonian Lamb prepared by the resident chef.

There are also recreational options for non fishing guests such as horseback riding, sightseeing the abundance of wildlife such as Grey foxes, Geese, Guanacos, Condors and many other birds of prey. Photographic safaris can also be organised to see Beaver Lodges and Dam sites.

Electricity is reliable and there is a back-up generator. There is also a landline telephone in each room.

There is internet at Aurelia Lodge.

This thirty-six thousands acre sheep farm has an exclusive private eight-mile frontage on the Rio Grande plus fifteen miles of private frontage on the Rio Menendez. The average fish range six to twenty-two pounds with fish exceeding thirty pounds being taken each season. The indoor bar and barbeque area make a great place to discuss the day's sea trout experiences.

A typical day starts after breakfast when the guides - all of whom speak good English and know the rivers very well - pick you up around 8:00 am and then you fish until about 12:00 noon. Following a break for lunch either at the river cabin or back at the lodge and then a siesta fishing resumes on the river at around 5:00 pm and you fish through until dusk.

The lodge offers one guide per two anglers but anglers can request one guide for each person at an additional cost.

There is also a fly shop should you need to stock up. Otherwise all anglers should aim to take everything that they need for the fishing with them, rods, reels, lines, waders and terminal tackle. Clothing should be made up of layers as temperatures and weather conditions can vary.
