Cayo Largo is in the South Central region of the Cuban Archipelago, one of the last virgin spots left on the planet. Cayo Largo offers fine saltwater flats fishing for Tarpon, Permit and Bonefish within close proximity of your accommodation.

Cayo Largo is the only location we have visited in Cuba which is suitable for non-fishing partners.

  • Season: all year round
  • World-class Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook, Barracuda, Jacks and Snapper
  • Anglers seeking a Grand Slam
  • Excellent Bonefish with large average size
  • Maximum 12 anglers per week
  • Ideal for fishing singles, couples, small and non-fishing partners

Accommodation is at the luxury Hotel Sol Melia. The is a large scale all-inclusive beach resort located on the southern shore of the Cayo Largo Del Sur. There are two hundred and ninety six air-conditioned rooms, all overlooking the ocean, the beautiful white sandy beaches and the swimming pools at the resort.

The hotel has several restaurants, bars, and areas to relax. The all-inclusive hotel Sol Melia is an excellent option for a family holiday and for those non-fishing partners who enjoy relaxing on the beach or by the pool, or those who like to go snorkelling or scuba diving. This is perfectly suited to both anglers and 'the family who don't fish' as there is plenty to do.

Dining in the hotel is up scaled from the usual. Breakfast is buffet style fruits, omelette, boiled eggs, cooked meats, bread, pastries etc. Lunches are taken out on the water and these will be pre-packed and ready. Evening meals are formal but informal and usually in the form of a dinner buffet including a full line-up of seafood, meats,, vegetables, breads, fruits, desserts and more. You won't go hungry. The kitchen team will, of course, try to cater for any special dietary requirement.

Internet is available at Cayo Largo, as is mobile phone reception. Please note that satellite phones are not allowed in Cuba and will be confiscated at the airport.

Cayo Largo is the best permit fishery in Cuba. Since 2008, the guides have managed the waters around the island and it has developed into a fantastic world-class permit and bonefishing destination. Cayo Largo is an exclusive Marine Park and fish are protected as the area is free of commercial fishing.

The season runs all year round with good fishing throughout the year when the weather co-operates. With an excellent baby tarpon fishery, good numbers of Permit and the year round Bonefish present, this fishery produces large numbers of Grand Slams.

Cayo Largo is limited to a maximum of six boats per week and is fished on a 'rotating beat' basis to ensure that you experience un-pressured fishing throughout your stay. Bonefish grow to large sizes on the Cayo Largo flats. Clients regularly encounter fish that exceed eight pouns in weight and the chance of double figure fish is ever present. Over the past few years, Cayo Largo has proved one of the best places in the Carribbean to land a Grand Slam and the guides have developed fly patterns that prove highly effective on the local permit populations.

The fishing programme at Cayo Largo is very well managed and runs extremely well. After breakfast each morning, a mini bus collects the anglers and takes them to the main marina which is about ten minutes from the hotel. This is where Avalon have their fishing centre and clubhouse and where you can leave your fishing rods and gear for the week, allowing for quick transfers from the hotel each morning and evening. They run Dolphin super skiffs and all boats are clean and engines well maintained.

We would advise all anglers to bring their own equipment rods, reels, lines, flies, wading boots etc and any spares that you might need. There are some spare rods but if possible, bring all your own gear.
