Fly-fishing in Ascension Bay has it all for both first-time and experienced saltwater fly-fishermen. Great fly-fishing for Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon, this region produces more Grand Slams for our clients than anywhere else in the world.
One of our favorite lodges in Ascension Bay is the locally owned and run Casa Viejo Chac. Manuel Chac has been fishing and working in Ascension Bay his whole life and has created a fantastic lodge in the heart of Punta Allen. We have been working closely with Casa Veijo Chac since its creation in 2008 and have a great understanding of the workings of the lodge and the fishing in Ascension Bay. For one of the most affordable flats fishing locations on the planet, it is very hard to beat!

Ascension Bay, Mexico, is the flats' fly-fishing dream. Known widely as the 'Grand Slam' capital of the world, there is no place you would rather go to try and tempt a Bonefish, a Tarpon and a Permit all on the same day. To stop a Bonefish which is speeding across the flat, then land the acrobatic Tarpon, and finally tempt a Permit, the most fussy fish of them all: this is the ultimate achievement in saltwater fly-fishing.
Ascension Bay is a year round fishery. Yet it is the Permit and Bonefish that make this place extraordinary. There is an abundance of Permit on the flats and getting one of these fish to eat your fly will test your fly-fishing skills to the limit. This is what saltwater fly-fishing is all about. The Bonefish are also in large numbers and it is a great destination for fly-fishermen looking to experience the joys of wading the flats after these grey ghosts.
Fly Odyssey has developed an affordable fly-fishing package to enable anglers the chance to experience the Ascension Bay 'Grand Slam'. You will be based in the heart of the Sian Ka'an biosphere world heritage area and be accommodated in locally owned Casa Veijo Chac. Casa Veijo is owned and operated by famous local guide Manuel Chac. Our European exclusivity of this lodge ensures that you will be able to visit during the prime weeks that we select. Each year we run several hosted trips to the lodge including a Bonefish academy for first time flats anglers.
