Esquina Argentina is famous for its Dorado fly-fishing. The Don Joaquin Estancia offers professionally-guided fly-fishing tours on the Corrientes River. The lodge can cater for you whether beginner or seasoned angler. The lodge has access to experienced guides and well-maintained boats to access the river fishing. All fishing is 'catch and release' and we would urge all anglers to de-barb hooks.

The Dorado, (Salminus Maxillosus), is an aggressive fish, and once hooked, it makes impressive and acrobatic multiple jumps. This complex and challenging fish can be found near confluences, on edges of eddies, riffles, sharp bends in the current, and close to overhanging carpets of water hyacinth. It can be fished in narrow runs, on skinny water. Large fish are hooked in a multitude of differing locations, so let your guide show you the ever-changing locations where you can make contact with these fish.

The lodge offers a three-day or six-day fishing programme with the basic programme following this sequence:

  • Welcome to the Don Joaquin estate.
  • After breakfast at the lodge you will be transferred to Esquina Port to meet the Guide where you depart for the Corrientes river.
  • Following a day's fishing and a gourmet lunch on the river, you return to the Don Joaquin Estancia for the evening meal.

We would advise all anglers to take all the equipment they will need for fly-fishing. Single handed rods, floating and sinking fly lines, bite tippet or small wire traces and bait pattern flies.
