Fly-fishing on the River Test at Wherwell Estate provides access to one of the most well-known locations on this famous river. There are seven beats in total and they may be booked
for one or two rods sharing a
Wherwell Estate is located on the Upper Test, so the river width is of a manageable size for
casting and the majority of the fishing is by overhead casting.
The river is well stocked and
with Browns and the occasional Rainbow but there are also a good number of wild Trout and
Grayling throughout the season.
This is sight-fishing with clarity of water, good weed
growth and gravel beds and the fish lying in pockets waiting for fly life.
Each beat has a small
hut with a table and chairs so it is ideal for taking a small picnic.

fabulous for a luxury weekend away.
For lunch, we highly recommend the White Lion pub in the village which is a five-minute drive from the beats.

The beat opens for fishing from 9:00am and you may stay until dusk.
The season opens on 1st May and closes on 10th October.
There are stocked
Brown Trout from one and a half pounds in weight upwards, wild Trout, Grayling and the occasional Rainbow.

Wherwell Estate is approximately a one hour and forty minutes' drive from central London with easy access from the main motorways.
The rail service from London Waterloo to Winchester is continuous throughout the day an takes
just over an hour.
A taxi service from Winchester to the beat takes about twenty minutes.
