The jewel in the crown of the inshore fishery is the Pacific Yellowtail Kingfish. This prolific species has a well-earned reputation for being one of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean and is described as a rapacious carnivore. Their aggressive nature means they have a penchant for attacking flies. Kingfish can grow up to two metres in length and over 60 kg. Given that the fly-caught world record stands at just over 25 kg on all class tippets, this gives some idea of the immense fighting abilities of these fish.Tangling with one of these fish makes such an impression that it will leave you wanting more.
