Freshwater Fly Fishing in Mongolia with Fly Odyssey

Mongolia offers a tantilising mix of remoteness, mystical culture and a legendary fish - The Taimen. Mongolia is the hot-bed of Taimen fishing, although they are found in many neighboring countries, it is Mongolia where they have established a status and reputation which draws anglers in from around the world. The Taimen reach mammoth proportions and are regularly encountered on the rivers we fish - clients in 2010 boating 20 fish in one day.

We offer 8 night float trips with Mongolia's premier outfitters to the world's first Taimen sanctuary which was established in 2008 with the support of the WFF. These trips not only offer you world class fly fishing but they also provide an insight into the rich culture of Mongolia. As you drift down the 200 km stretch of river that is fished during your week you are greeted each evening by the sight of a traditional Mongolian gers where you are accommodated next to the river. These Taimen float trips are only offered during the months of September and early October when the Taimen fishing is at its prime.
