While Iceland is famed for its salmon fishing it also has outstanding sea trout, brown trout and arctic char opportunities for those who are keen to explore the region. Fly Odyssey has a variety of options and can tailor a trip to experience the lake char fishing combined with some of the finest sea-run brown and Arctic char and brown trout fishing available in the country.
The Minnivallalaekur is famous for producing wild trout between 10 lb and 16 lb each season. Fish average in excess of 3 lb and there is no prettier place to fly-fish in Iceland. This 7 km of spring fed beauty might be the best wild brown trout river in Europe. Certainly very few rivers would hold the number of double figure fish that the 'Minni' is famous for producing each season. This fly only catch and release fishery is available to 4 rods ensure that it is sustained into the future. The lodge sits on a bend in the river, right next to one of the best pools and with a magnificent view to Mt Hekla in the distance. There are four twin-bedrooms, two bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, dining room, sitting room, and a veranda with thermal spa.
Fly Odyssey run hosted trips to the Minnivallalaekur river each July and August. We can arrange bespoke travel or a combination trip with the nearby salmon and seatrout fishing of the highly regarded Tungalaekur River or the nearby brown trout river, the Galtalaekur.
