Fly fishing in the Maldives is one of the world's best kept secrets for the saltwater fly fishermen. All of our favorite saltwater fly fishing species including Bonefish, Giant Trevally, Sailfish and Tuna are present in excellent numbers in the pristine Maldivian waters.
The Maldives island nation consists of a chain of 26 atolls (approximately 1200 islands) stretching from North to South in the Indian Ocean. Many of these atolls offer world class hotels making it the perfect get-away for families and non-fishing partners.
These atolls and islands, many of them uninhabited, also offer a great variety of habitat for Bonefish, Giant Trevally, Bluefin Trevally, Barred Trevally, various Triggerfish and Parrotfish on the flats. The bluewater offers excellent Sailfish, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna and Bonito opportunities. Very few fly anglers have visited the Maldives and the concept of fly fishing to the local population is quite new. However the catch and release ethos fits well with the Maldivian sustainable tourism objectives and we are pleased to be able offer some new and exciting fly fishing in the region. Fly Odyssey will be continuing to develop new fly fishing opportunities in the Maldives with our partners in the region.
Fly Odyssey provides both land-based and live-aboard options in the Maldives. We have helped to establish the only land-based fly fishing option in the remote northern waters of the Maldives at Dhonakulhi Island. The waters surrounding the island have a great variety of species for the fly angler and makes an ideal base for a holiday with spouse or family. We offer unmatched bespoke itineraries to the Maldives.
