Iceland Sea Trout 2010

2010 Dates

20th August-9th September 2010.
15th-20th September 2010

Tungullaekur River

Having just returned from Iceland we are pleased to announce that we have negotiated access to the best sea run brown trout river Europe. The Tungulaekur river has been described by those who have fished it as a mini 'Rio Grande'. This hard to access river produces many 20lb fish each season.

For many years it has been primarily the domain of the owners of the river and their friends with the occasional rod sold to overseas anglers at inflated prices. However this season the owners have agreed to open up the Tungulaekur during its prime season.

The prime season for sea trout in the Tungulaekur runs from mid September to the end of October. This is a short river (2km's in length) with the famed 'Breidan pool' sitting below the falls that halt the migration of sea trout any further upstream. The river is a reknown big fish water with 20lb + sea run brown trout to be expected with fish averaging in excess of 10lb's. Salmon catches are also common, mainly grilse but a 18lb fish was a highlight in 2008 and sea run arctic char are also common at the confluence of the glacial fed Skafta river and the Tungulaekur. Due to the nature of the river very little wading is required.

This fish was caught August 2009. 18lb of sea run brown trout.

Iceland is a short 2 and 1/2 hour flight from either Manchester, London or Glasgow with daily service. The full service lodge is a 5 hour drive from Reykjavik or a short helicopter flight (1 hour) for those planning a short weekend break.

The fishing is £690 per rod per day with a 4 rod maximum (2 rod minimum) on the river fishing noon to noon. The rate includes fishing, lodging, full board, guide service and road transfers from Reykjavik.

Opportunities to fish the Tungalaekur come up rarely and this is an opportunity not to be missed.
