Fly fishing Isla Holbox and the Campeche region of the Yucatan coast provides the chance to land a really big giant Tarpon. Isla Holbox is the newest giant tarpon destination with the discovery of fish up to 180 lbs cruising past the island on their migration up the Gulf of Mexico. Tarpon are fished to on the shallow flats (5-15 feet deep) or when schools of fish are found rolling on the surface, which is a common occurrence during the migration. The unpressured waters of Holbox make this the ideal location to hook, jump and possibly land a trophy tarpon exceeding 100 lbs.

Both Campeche and Holbox also has a prolific baby tarpon and snook fishery in the many mangrove lined lagoons that that permeate the Mexican mainland. Baby tarpon ranging from 5-30lb fill your days with action as you cast in tight to the mangroves. Permit, jacks and barracuda are also available but it is the tarpon fishing that this region is really famous for.

Fly Odyssey run individual, bespoke and hosted groups to this region for the avid tarpon fisherman. Our clients have recorded fish to 160 lb out of Isla Holbox so if you are chasing a huge tarpon this could be the place where it all comes together.
