Fly fishing at Dhonakulhi resort in the Maldives is now exclusively available through Fly Odyssey. Fly Odyssey recently visited the island to assess the potential of fly fishing in this region. Our recent visit to the island resulted in good numbers of Bonefish to 6lb and Giant Trevally up to 45lb along with some of the best Bluefin Trevally fishing we have found anywhere in the world. Many Giant Trevally in excess of 50lb+ were encountered and the fishery for these specimens will continue to be developed.

We have helped to establish the only land-based fly fishing opportunities in the Northern Maldives at the barefoot chic resort on Dhonakulhi Island. The Dhonakulhi Spa, resort and Marina offers a range of luxurious accommodations to suit all budgets. The island itself is uniquely set on a deepwater channel offering the first marina in the Maldives and has a stunning lagoon on the north side with expansive shallow flats. The accommodation is a beautiful mix of small private chalets, family villas and the exclusive Hideaway Palace. Each accommodation offers private sections of beach and a personalised butler service. The culinary options are exquisite with Matheefaru restaurant offering a mix of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes while the Gaafushi restaurant offers an Asian mix of Indian, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian flavours. The kids club, spa and treatment rooms and diving complex ensure that there is something for everyone to do on Dhonakulhi Island.
