Saltwater Fly Fishing > Cuba > Cayo Santa Maria

Cuba: Cayo Santa Maria

Cayo Santa Maria in Cuba is the latest tarpon fishing location to open its doors on the North shores of Cuba. The fishing for tarpon in this area is world class and is a mix of deep channels, shallow flats and mangrove lined bays. Fish from 10 to 40 lbs are present all year long and very big fish up to 100 lbs+ start to show up in great numbers from April onwards. Fishing for big snappers and jack is also great on fly and with spinning rods. The close proximity of the Bahamas Channel also offers good offshore possibilities for wahoo, dorado and tuna. There are also beautiful flats with bonefish, snooks and permits. These flats have hard and white sandy bottom. They are very easy to wade and provide very good quality fishing.

There are several options for accommodation, near the fishing club, in very nice bungalows, just by a beautiful white sandy beach or in the Cayo nearby in a Sol Melia 5* all inclusive hotel. The islands are beautiful and hotels offer the same high quality standards that are found in other regions of Cuba. This makes them an ideal location for a family holiday or non fishing partners and the close proximity to Havana (2 hour drive) means that you can arrive at your destination the same day that you depart your homeland.
