Australia is a mecca for saltwater fly fishermen. The untouched shores of the northern tropical coastline offer remote adventures to unfished waters that are teaming which a huge varitey of tropical species that eat flies. From the iconic Barramundi to numerous species of trevally, tuna and mackerel and some of the best bluewater fly fishing in the world for black marlin, wahoo, sailfish and dogtooth tuna. The diversity of habitats provides shallow sand flats, mangrove systems, large estuarine rivers, remote coral atolls and shallow reef systems ensuring the number of species encountered will match any other fly fishery in the world.
For those that like adventure to remote wilderness destinations Australia has a plethora of choices. We have chosen the best locations based on years of experience in the region. The best way to experience the remote tropical waters of Australia is by liveaboard. Our liveaboard operations in the Coral Sea, Cape York and Western Australia are the best available and will provide a truly unique fly fishing adventure. If land based is more your style there are excellent flats based opportunities out of Exmouth and Hervey Bay.
Fly Odyssey specialises in fully guided fly fishing trips to Australia as well as family holiday locations that are suitable to pack a fly rod. For any enquiry about fly fishing in Australia in both salt and freshwaters we will be able to provide upto date information on what is the best best option for your trip.

"Thanks - enjoyable trips, and all the arrangements worked well. The fishing was a bit mixed but with some excellent bits; reasonable fishing, not a red hot week for the boat, but some decent stuff. I got some nice tuna - and that fishing for tuna was I thought I real selling point for the trip, exciting stuff. The flats and river fishing were slower - but some queenies, tarpon and goldens. There were quite a lot of permit around - mostly schools - and I think 8 were boated in the week. I hooked a couple - lost one after one run, the second I got to the side of the boat, on its side. The guide then caught the net on the boat and the fish spooked with a run of about 10m - I was just bringing it back to the boat when it panicked, dashed off about 20m, and then got nailed by a big hammerhead! Damn."
