The first salmonids to find their way to the Southern hemisphere were sent to Tasmania, Australia making a journey to this part of the world an essential experience for those who love to fish for brown trout. Brown trout ova originating from the Rivers Itchen and Wey were transported for 91 days on the clipper 'Norfolk' and arrived in Tasmania on the 21st of January 1864. From this batch of ova the first trout to be hatched in the Southern hemisphere resulted. Today Tasmania offers both river and lake fishing to wild brown trout within a beautifully scenic and historic environment. Tasmania has a unique convict history and any trip there will provide a fascinating insight into the first Europeans lives in the antipodes.
Fly Odyssey is highly experienced with regard to the freshwater fly fishing opportunities available in Australia. The prehistoric Saratoga and the world famous Barramundi inhabit the freshwater billabongs of the Northern half of the country offering a unique freshwater fly fishing experience.

"Mat, thanks for a great trip to Tasmania. Stalking the wild brown trout on the lake edges was better than bone fishing”.
