Fly-fishing in Alaska

There is not another country anywhere in the world in which the sport of fly fishing is more suited for anyone interested in chasing salmonids on a fly. King salmon, silver salmon, sockeye salmon, pink salmon, chum salmon, rainbow trout, dolly varden, steelhead. What more could any die hard trout or salmon fishermen want. But Alaska has more than just fishing. This big wilderness provides nature lovers a huge range of environments to explore and wildlife to view.

The Kenai Peninsula

One of the world's most famous Pacific salmon destinations is the The Kenai Peninsula, located just south of Anchorage. The Kenai has been called a microcosm of Alaska; over 16,000 square miles of impossible beauty and bounty. Since the late 1800’s, adventurers have crossed the globe to experience its incredible variety of glacial ice and towering peaks, gentle lowlands, tundra, breathtaking saltwater fjords and abundant wildlife and of course great fishing.

Whether this be a trip in search of giant king salmon, a dedicated steelhead journey, or a family holiday to experience both the fishing, the wildlife and the scenery we have lodges suited to meet all these requirements.

Great Alaska Lodge

The Great Alaska Adventure Lodge is located at the very spot where for millennia native Americans spent the summers catching salmon to sustain them over the long winters. This incredible riverfront location along with state and federal limited entry permits allow us to share the amazing scenery, wildlife and sports?shing of 3 National Parks and the Kenai Peninsula. Great Alaska is permitted to access The Chugach, Lake Clare, Kenai Fjords, and Denali National Parks as well as the Kenai National Wildlife sanctuary.

Great Alaska is situated on 25 acres of river frontage at the junction of the Kenai and Moose rivers and has several permanent tented camps throughout the Kenai Peninsula. For those that want a true backcountry camp-out experience Great Alaska offers unique packages to fish some of the Kenai's smaller tributaries for rainbow's, dolly varden, and arctic char. Alongside the fishing Great Alaska offers the opportunity to sea kayak with Orca's and whales or stay overnight in the Lake Clark National Park remote bear viewing camp along with a host of other scenic cruises and wildlife experiences.

Talaheim Lodge

Talaheim lodge is located 85 miles west of Anchorage and offers a unique fly out fly fishing experience. The lodge itself is a family owned operation and constructed from local timbers from the onsite sawmill. Located on the Talachulitna River in a remote location, Talaheim has access to one of the great pacific salmon and rainbow trout fisheries in Alaska.

But what makes Talaheim lodge unique is that Talaheim is the only lodge operation in Alaska to own and utilise helicopters to fly its guests to the huge number of rivers and streams in the Talachulitna drainage. Each day anglers are flown into new water and due to the speed and accessibility of these craft you can be assured of fishing remote, untouched waters and not expect to see another angler during your stay. All of the fly fishermen's favorite Alaskan species are present in rivers surrounding Talaheim. Late June and July offer excellent king salmon fishing, while August and September offer excellent silver salmon, rainbow trout and dolly varden fishing.
