Flyfishing Patagonian Chile – Client trip report

Michael and his wife Marion recently returned from a trip to Estancia del Zorro in Chilean Patagonia

James my recent trip to Chile, from Sydney was outstanding, and took me back to what the South Island of New Zealand was like thirty years ago. I still fish NZ every year as you know, but this experience fishing the wonderful private spring creeks on the Estancia and the hospitality shown by Sebastian and his family was a pleasure.

We had some fantastic dry fly fishing on mayfly hatches, with numerous Brown and Rainbow trout landed over 23 inches in the Spring Creeks, the fish in great condition with an abundance of Couta mudeyes also under every log I turned. We also had success with stimulator patterns and nymphs also at times in some of the deeper runs.

I thought the highlight was landing 23 fish in a 2 hour session, with all of the fish between 3-6lb’s which was a great day. But it was also hard to go past the day we caught both Browns and Rainbows in two countries in the same day, on the same fly – the Zorro Grand Slam! I can’t wait to head back.
