Paul Procter returned to Bosnia on our annual hosted weeks…
Ascension Bay is one of the great flats fisheries of the world and a great learning ground for first time fishermen. Kenny recently returned form Mexico where several of his group experienced bonefishing for the first time. His report follows……
Back home from a recent 6 day /7 night trip to Ascension Bay Mexico. Our base was Casa Viejo Chac in Punta Allen. The accommodation was very comfortable and exceptionally clean, with everything an angler needs. Food at the lodge was second to none, with all meals included in the package.
There was four anglers in our party and we rotated around 4 fishing guides ( 2 anglers and 2 guides per boat) . The guides were fantastic , with great knowledge of the bay, and worked endlessly to locate fish each day.
Days one and two ended well with both boats contacting bonefish , including some nice fish in the 4lb plus range , and numerous small Jacks. We also had shots at good sized Permit and baby Tarpon, but sadly it wasn’t to be.
The weather was against us the following 3 days, with major thunderstorms reducing our fishing opportunities . Our hardworking guides still managed to put us on fish inbetween storms , and we all still managed one or two bonefish per day and one boat had great fun catching Blue Runners .
On our last day the weather settled, clear skies and low winds made for perfect conditions, and it turned out to be a red letter day. Both boats landing many more fish- One boat landed over 50 fish, including 24 bonefish , 3 snook, a baby tarpon and a baby permit . In total 9 different species were landed.
A fantastic trip and one that we will never forget.
