A really inspiring bit of writing from Mr Andrew Bernard…
Thanks for your email. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip, JT and the rest of the guys helped me so much. My casting was a bit shaky the first day or two, but I asked advice from everyone and it improved greatly. By the end of the week I could shoot at fish even into wind! The time there was such great learning school. Please thank JT, Mark, Duff and Steve again for their help. Without them the trip would not have been the same.
My delay was 4 days… So I made the most of it and organised with the Villages to have an extra couple of days fishing, and it was amazing. I finally got a shot at a big GT! Beaata, the guide, helped to get into position, make the cast, wait, and I started stripping as fast as I could and then the mad dash for the fly! ‘Fish on’ was the words from Beaata, and I could not believe my luck. 45minutes later I landed, what he reckoned, was a 40lbs GT. I’ll attach a photo. After that, I still caught loads of bonefish, and 2 triggers on the last day.As a first saltwater fly destination, I am so glad I went to Xmas Island. Thanks for your help and advice, I will definately be back.
